What is FSc Ophthalmology Technology?
Ophthalmology Technology trains you to be the right hand of the ophthalmologist. In two years you learn to measure vision (visual acuity), perform refraction (manual and auto), check intraocular pressure (tonometry), operate the slit lamp, assist in cataract and glaucoma surgeries, maintain delicate ophthalmic instruments, and educate patients on eye health. The FBISE curriculum covers ocular anatomy, geometric optics, pharmacology, common diseases (cataract, glaucoma, retinal disorders), and community eye care — including school screening and eye camp logistics.
This is a technician-level qualification — you work under an ophthalmologist. But it is also the direct feeder into BS Optometry (4-year), where you become an independent primary eye care provider (optometrist) licensed to prescribe glasses, contact lenses, and detect eye disease for referral.
Who Should Apply?
- Matric-pass students interested in eye care, optics, and precision instruments
- Students who want a clinical, patient-facing technical role in 2 years
- Those planning BS Optometry / BS Vision Sciences — this FSc covers Year 1–2 optics, refraction, and ocular anatomy foundations
- No age limit — career switchers, gap-year students welcome
